"Thank-you." Rosalinda replied, smiling at the girl that had appeared behind her. "But I was wondering if you had perhaps something that is... easy... to take care of? I have found that gardening is not one of my strong suits. I also need something…
Rosalinda walked, bored, between the shelves of books. She wasn't really looking at the titles of the books that she passed. She was lost in her own miserable thoughts. She selected a random book and flipped it open. She recognized the text - it was…
Rosalinda kept her head down as she made her way through the hot, busy streets. Usually, she would not have cared to go wandering around in the burning midday sun, but today she was anxious to explore the town before she had to go to class this even…
Vampire Level (only if you're a vampire - select Level 0 if you're human):
Level B: Noble Blood
Character Description (tell us what your character looks like):
… Rosalinda looked critically at the mirror. Her silvery-grey eyes were cold and her lush scarlet lips set into a tight frown as she examined her reflection. Her pale skin shown softly in the moonlight, contrasting with the long waves of midnight hair that cascaded down her back and over one shoulder.
She was dressed simply in white linen slacks and a long emerald v-neck sweater that emphasized her slim and tiny frame. Although now seventeen (in vampire years) her curves were very modest, giving her a somewhat boyish appearance. She threw on her favorite lavender trench coat and opened the door…
Character Personality (how does your character thinks, reacts or acts):
…“Remember to try to control your temper, Rosie.” Gabriel told her as he walked her downstairs. “And talk to people; you don’t have to be so quiet all the time.”
“Gabriel, don’t worry so much. I’ll be fine. Trust me.” She said, laying a comforting hand on his arm.
“I know. I’m just a little concerned… people have a hard time dealing with your strange and violent mood swings. You’re really sweet, and that’s the Rose I want people to see, not the bitter Rose. You have real compassion; all you need to do is to show that you have it. So that’s the challenge I’m giving you – behave yourself.”
Rosalinda smiled and kissed Gabriel on both his cheeks. “You know I can’t resist a challenge. Good-bye, coz. I’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you too.” He watched as she stepped through the door and strode confidently out into the moonlit night…
Character Background (your character history before s\he joined the Academy):
… Rosalinda stared blankly out of the tinted window of the black car. She remembered.
With her father, mother, and eventually her sisters, she had traveled all around the world. Her father, a great surgeon, had bought donated blood to feed his family, so that they could live in peace with humans.
Rosalinda had been instructed by the best teachers that could be found, not only in core studies, but also in several different languages, in fencing and archery, and in the fine arts.
She received letters regularly from her cousins, Gabriel and Artem, from their home in England, describing events there and telling her how much they missed her. She came to visit them for her birthday every year, when her aunt and uncle would throw her a party at their manor.
From an early age, Rosalinda had loved music and so had been delighted when, for her sixth birthday, Gabriel had bought her, her first harp. It was in Rome, she remembered, that she had first fallen in love with the harp. Her mother had taken Rosalinda and Imogen – her youngest sister, Bianca, had not yet been born – to a concert performance. That night, the harp had struck a chord in her heart and she had been playing ever since. The harp and singing had been her two greatest loves, until the winter she turned fifteen.
That was the winter she and Artem had fallen in love, and that summer he had proposed. Her happiness was complete; she had everything she could want – a loving fiancé who understood her, wonderful and supportive parents, and a close family – well, accept for Gabriel and Artem’s sister, Annis, who she despised.
But it had all come to an abrupt and appalling ending. The night of her sixteenth birthday, two weeks before the wedding, Rosalinda had a performance. Her sisters – and Annis – had gone with her to watch. Her parents, her aunt and uncle, and Artem had stayed home to fix her a surprise party. Gabriel was in France, attending college to become a lawyer.
It had been a good day for Rosalinda. That is, until they came home to find an eerily dark house. Sensing danger, she had forbidden the others to enter. What she found shocked her. There was blood – vampire blood – everywhere. She found the bodies, all five of them, in the parlor with bite marks in their necks. Choking down her close-to-hysterical sobs, she rushed the other three back into her car and drove them all the way to a hotel in Southampton, where they stayed during the day. From there, she called Gabriel and he came to meet them as soon as he could.
After what happened, they all moved to France so Gabriel could continue his studies.
Although she never told anyone, Rosalinda harbored a deep desire for revenge against the vampire who had murdered the people she loved. She had been searching for clues as to who might’ve been responsible, but she might as well have been trying to bring her family back from the dead.
She could tell Gabriel had been growing increasingly more worried about her, as her mood swings got more and more violent, but there was nothing she could do about it, not until she set things right. A thunderclap brought her out of her reverie, and it started raining…
What are your character's special skills and unusual abilities (if you're human) or your powers (if you're vampire)? Please keep this at least somewhat faithful to VK canon, don't start making up powers that would completely make no sense in the series.
… Rosalinda scowled. The rain would ruin her hair. Sighing, she made it short, spiking it wildly in the back, the way her father’s had been. Now it wouldn’t look quite so awful. She rummaged around in her bags for an umbrella.
Ever since she was three, Rosalinda had been able to shape shift – to change her own appearance, or take on the form of any animal or another person, although that was much harder. She learned gradually to use her heightened vampire senses to store away the minute details of someone’s countenance for possible later use and to use her remarkable skills of mimicry to replicate others’ voices. She had always thought it impolite, though, to take on another person’s guise without their permission under most circumstances, so she avoided that. She found her umbrella and placed it across her knees. Outside, the storm grew worse…
How does your character feel about her\his vampiric state (if you're vampire) or How would your character react if s/he was turned into a vampire (if you're human)?
… Going to Cross Academy would be a nice change for Rosalinda. She had lived all her life on her father’s supply of volunteered blood and was completely averse to having to revert to the more traditional food source. She had always been taught to value all life, and had asked the Council if some blood tablets might also be sent to the rest of her family, for she did not want her darling little sisters or gentle Gabriel to have to regress to taking blood directly from humans either. She had accepted that she was a vampire and would always be, but she wasn’t pleased. Perhaps things would be different, better, at the Academy…
Character Family and Friends:
…They were in town now. The lightning lighted buildings with a distinctly Victorian feel briefly, since clouds hid the moon.
Rosalinda wondered what the others were doing back home now. It was almost morning; her little sisters, Imogen and Bianca would be getting ready for bed. Gabriel would tuck them in quickly before returning to his work. Annis would be up in her room probably - doing whatever it was that she did nowadays. She and Rosalinda loathed each other and so had very little contact.
She sighed. She missed Artem. Her cousin, her greatest love. It had been logical for them to be together – he was a Pureblood, she was his Noble cousin – but her father, Jesse, and his, Armand, had not forced them together. They had loved on their own.
She felt the intense ache in her heart pulling her deeper into misery…
Items of Note (Objects and other possessions that your character owns that are not common or easy to obtain)
…She moaned softly and touched the ring on her finger. She longed to hold her harp in her hands, to feel its comforting weight press against her, its strings beneath her fingers. It was the only thing that could soothe her when she was missing Artem. It kept her company when she was lonely and understood her in a way not even Gabriel could. It was her prized possession. She waited impatiently for the time when she could unpack it…
Character Goals:
…They were almost there now. Rosalinda felt a secret twinge of excitement. Her parents, she knew, had been planning to send her to Cross Academy to complete her high school education, so not only was she fulfilling her parent’s wishes, she was hoping that maybe, just maybe, she would find out something about their murder. After all, many of the vampires at Cross Academy came from families of Nobles and Purebloods. There was always a chance… well, she would have to wait and see.
But she was excited for another, even more secret reason. She might make some friends. Rosalinda was notoriously bad with any kind of social interaction. Her father had used to say that her mood was as changeable as her shape. Except for her family, she had no friends. Her mood swings were often sudden and almost never subtle. She had to struggle frequently to control her ferocious temper before it got out of hand. Sometimes she didn’t succeed. There was one memorable episode where she had actually gotten so mad at Annis that she had thrown her down the stairs. She had felt guilty about that later.
Perhaps though, she could turn over a new leaf here and make some acquaintances…
Other Character Information (hobbies, quirks, and other random information) OPTIONAL:
…She glanced out the window. They were on the right road now.
Rosalinda had heard that the Academy had beautiful gardens. She had made up her mind that the first thing she would do in the afternoon would be to go out and sketch for a while. She hoped it would be sunny, although judging by this weather, it would not be. She loved the sun, though she knew it would burn her to a crisp if she were to go out into it without a hat and coat. But there was something so beautiful about the sunlight that the moon could simply not replicate.
Oh well, she thought to herself. If it’s still raining, I’ll just read. She was glad she had brought her books with her. She would reread Pride and Prejudice for the umpteenth time, or perhaps the book Gabriel had given her, The Scarlet Pimpernel. He had said it was about an Englishman who rescued French Aristocrats from the guillotine during the French Revolution. That should be interesting…

… They had arrived, at last. The car stopped in front of a set of tall, wrought iron gates. Rosalinda stepped from the car with her suitcase in one hand, her black bag slung over her shoulder, and her umbrella raised above her head. A servant followed her through the gates, pushing her harp in front of him on a trolley.
“So this is Cross Academy…” She said quietly under her breath. It was indeed beautiful. There were plenty of large, leafy trees for her to sit under when the weather was nice. She could not wait to start a new life here.
She walked briskly up the path towards the main building. As she pushed open the door, she felt a stir of anxiety in her stomach and fought it down quickly before it could over-power her. No one would bite her. Hopefully.
She found the Headmaster’s study with ease and rapped hesitantly on the door. This was it. She could do this.
Later that evening, she lay on the bed that was now hers. She didn’t know who her roommate was, or even if she had one. She had not bothered unpacking anything except for her harp. It stood, majestic and beautiful, beside the bed.
Smiling, she slid off of the soft quilt, walked to the chair next to the harp, and rested her fingers against the strings, the music ready to spring from her heart to the handsome instrument in front of her. She savored the moment for a brief second before stroking her fingers along the strings. The gentle tune of Debussy’s Arabesque filled the air and Rosalinda relaxed against the harp’s shoulder, letting the brilliant sound calm her. Everything would be fine.
